Can we talk about how awesome it is to be a woman right now? Let’s be honest we all knew it was pretty sweet to be a woman to start with, but I would like to point out and highlight some of the amazing women in the entertainment industry that happen to be inspiring me. (Also, this is a lighthearted fluff blog - I am not going to even touch on all the women outside entertainment who are changing the world.)
Here is a video to get you feeling pumped.
We all know already how much I love the show Girls, but that is mostly due the fact the I am totally inspired by the creator/writer/director/actor Lena Dunham. She is my age and while a lot of time I feel like a total failure compared to her, the rest time I feel inspired. 26 and making things happen. Amazing.
Tina Fey and Amy Pohler have slaughtered the stereotype that women can’t be funny. Obviously, that is the most absurd thing I have ever heard but if you need proof watch any episode of 30 Rock or Parks and Recreation. Anybody who watched the Golden Globes this year can see how they brought it back from the dead. They were the only reason I cared to tune in. They killed it!
Speaking of hilarious woman - let’s talk about how movies like Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect are taking the country by storm. Kristen Wiig, (who I share a birthday with!) Rebel Wilson, Maya Rudolph and Melissa McCarthy are just a few of the women rocking the big and little screen. TV shows like Girls, New Girl and Modern Family (just to name a few) are highlighting these hilarious women. Zooey Deschanel has been an inspiration to me for years now, my BF and I just refer to her as our other BF, which may come across creepy but meant as flattery.
There are so many amazing female writers but Gillian Flynn is topping the NY Times best seller list for Gone Girl, and I just did a review of Sharp Objects. The woman can write some deeply terrifying and disturbing stuff which I find completely inspiring. I know this is just one author in thousands, but I love that she writes so twisted. Who says that only men can write to make people uncomfortable?
Jessica Chastain stars in Zero Dark Thirty which was directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Jessica's acting was brilliant and the film, which I had no desire to see originally, was done extrememly well (though filled with controversy).
Lastly, inspiring me for her bad ass attitude, killer acting ability, and her overall personality is Jennifer Lawrence. Here is a link to an article that sums her up in 25 cute jpgs. http://www.buzzfeed.com/kmallikarjuna/the-best-jennifer-lawrence-quotes-of-2012
Am I right? Aren’t we as a sex just rocking it? It’s almost as if people are realizing that we’re - gasp - equal to men!
